Sunday Is For Serving Others!

Sunday, December 4th, 2011

Each Sunday going forward, as we are able, GoHuman.com will use our blog to highlight a different kind of service.  Service to members of our community by members of our community.  In this first post in the series, we’re again focusing on our new MicroCause partner, Belief for Relief.  Belief For Relief assists numerous families, and in this post we’re featuring Annette Greer, of Hempstead NY.

Annette is a hard-working single mother of three children. Her daughter has moved on to create her own family, while her two sons, ages 11 & 14, still reside with her in a modest apartment.  Annette has had a good job within the local school district for the past twelve years.  She is a positive influence in her community, taking pride in donating her free time to advocate for parents and students, and she is involved in her children’s school functions.  Currently Annette is PTSA President for Hempstead Middle School.

Annette always covered her family’s monthly expenses until her brother unexpectedly passed away without plans in place for the burial and ceremonies. Pulling money from every corner, she managed to sorrowfully bury her brother. Unfortunately, rents were skipped, and with her landlord starting eviction paperwork, Annette is fighting to provide for her family.  Moving to another apartment is not possible given security deposits and other expenses.  Annette does live within her means, but many households these days are not financially prepared to overcome the kind of unexpected hardship that has hit her family.

Belief For Relief is providing a one-time-donation to Annette.  Please help another family avoid falling into poverty after hitting a small bump in the road of life by taking a moment to donate today! 100% of your donations will go to Annette, or if her need has been filled, other families in need. GoHuman.com will donate $1 for every new registration mentioning Annette, so please spread the word.  Let’s rebuild America one family at a time!

We Welcome Belief For Relief

Wednesday, November 30th, 2011

GoHuman.com is all about connecting people who need each other at the local level, in meaningful ways.  We aspire to be a catalyst for positive change.  That is why we are partnering with Belief For Relief to expand the Microcause program we launched on Valentine’s Day 2010.

Belief For Relief Inc. is a nationwide nonprofit organization dedicated to helping families who have fallen on hard times.  This sadly includes former members of the middle class that are now living on the financial edge.  When living check to check any small bump in the road can derail a family.  Belief For Relief hand-picks families where a one-time helping hand can prevent a crisis like loss of electricity or heat, eviction and home loss, improper medical care, or loss of transportation needed to work.  After addressing the crisis they provide follow-up guidance to help the family budget and plan to avoid the need for more financial assistance.

By partnering with Belief For Relief, a NYS Incorporated 501c(3) nonprofit organization, GoHuman.com can fulfill its goal of being a for profit entity with a social conscience, and provide its customers and supporters 100% tax deductible opportunities to make a difference locally.

We’ll start slowly, featuring a monthly Belief For Relief Microcause in our blog and on our homepage, while growing together with Belief for Relief to extend these opportunities to assist to more and more zip codes, as our GoHuman.com communities grow.

GoHuman.com also supports Belief For Relief and its causes directly by donating $1 for every new registration that mentions the organization or one of its featured causes.  So spread the word, you’ll help us grow and help those in need at the same time.

Please join us in thanking Belief For Relief for their outstanding community building model, helping us help each other.  And please click on the image below to donate today.

MicroCause Update

Monday, April 19th, 2010

We have come to the half-way mark of April, Autism Awareness Month, and are about two months away from our June 15th deadline to raise the much needed money to help this wonderful family in need.  As of April 15th we have raised $8,155.79 of the needed $14,900 to ensure Sunshine gets the treatment he needs at the Autism Treatment Centers of America.  I have had some wonderful success in reaching out to individuals and the Autism Community overall these past few weeks and want to just give a brief recap on those efforts.

I was invited to become a member and post a blog on Autism Blogger, an Autism networking site, devoted to spreading awareness and connecting families who are afflicted with this condition.

I also was invited to join, and subsequently reached out to the creators of Crowdspring, who featured GoHuman and Sunshine’s cause in their Small Business Spotlight of the week .

I was also invited to join, and blog on Autisable, a new Autism community started by the creators of the blogging community, Xanga.

Having just moved to the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, I am making friends and spreading the word about Sunshine and GoHuman to any and all I meet.  I was also fortunate to make acquaintance with Karyn Vilendre, owner of Twin Cities Cheap, and hope to be working with her further in the upcoming weeks.

All in all the word is spreading, slowly but surely, and as we gain momentum, I look so forward to the day when we’ve raised the funds to be able to send Sunshine and his family to the Autism Treatment Centers of America.

Halfway there!

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

On Valentine’s Day we invited 10,000 people toRobert Moldenhauer by donating $1 or more towards his $14,900 MicroCause.

Robert, AKA Sunshine, now 12, was a heart transplant baby later diagnosed with Autism.  Sunshine’s family carries a burden of medical expenses and the heartbreak of caring for a child who needs their help but can’t communicate.

The Autism Treatment Center of America offers hope – read this  heartwarming report from the UK.  To raise funds for Sunshine’s treatment, the parents started Sunshine Sprouts, posted on GoHuman.com, and we’re spreading the word and donating $1 for every new registration that mentions Sunshine.

Donors are touched by Sunshine’s story, and we are moved by the donors: “A beautiful boy sent from God! I wish you/your family much joy and a long and prosperous life together; filled with wonderful memories!!!!”

We’re a month ahead of schedule, at $7,491, with more coming in daily.  I wish you could feel the spirit of joy and hope filling Sunshine and his family.  Love, prayers and generosity are already working their magic!

To build momentum, Lauren Wood has become GoHuman.com’s MicroCause Correspondent.  She will spread the word and connect us with communities active in the fight against autism.  If you’d like to help, please email Lauren@GoHuman.com or refer@GoHuman.com.

Show Sunshine you care with just $1! And spread the word.

Micro Cause Update – The Son is Shining!

Monday, March 1st, 2010

We’re two weeks into GoHuman’s first micro cause and we’re very happy to report our success!

Out of our goal of $14,900, we have currently raised $999.17 to send Sunshine to an intensive autism treatment program in Massachusetts. We’re on our way, but still need to spread the word far and wide.

We seek 10,000 people to donate $1 or more. Can you help?

In addition, GoHuman will donate $1 in your name for every friend who joins GoHuman and mentions “Sunshine” through March. You could help Sunshine just by telling a few friends about GoHuman and what we’re doing to help local businesses.

Thanks!

The heart of business

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

Inside every local business is a human heart, needing community support.  On Valentine’s day GoHuman.com is introducing micro-causes for the people behind the businesses in our community.

We’re starting in my backyard, Middleton, WI, (CNN/Money’s best place to live in America) where Robert and Shohreh Moldenhauer run Sunshine Sprouts to earn money to help their son, Robert Jr., known as Sunshine.

Sunshine was born with HLHS (a diseased heart) and at 2 weeks had a heart transplant, followed by immune system rejection.  At 2 years old Sunshine was diagnosed with Autism.  Robert and Shohreh need their son to be able to communicate with them about the condition of his heart, literally.

Son-Rise Therapy from the Autism Treatment Center of America has helped the Moldenhauers, but the program is expensive.  GoHuman.com is raising funds to send Sunshine to an intensive program in Massachusetts.  The total program cost is $18,400, plus travel.  The Moldenhauers borrowed a down-payment and obtained a $3,500 scholarship, but need $14,900 to participate in the program.  Learn more on Sunshine’s Website.

Place an order with Sunshine Sprouts or click here to donate.

We seek 10,000 people to contribute $1 or more and will donate $1 in your name for every friend who joins GoHuman and mentions “Sunshine” through March.
